Zurich 2004 Day 1

 Monday 6 th September 2004

I had a mid day flight this time flying out at 4:30pm so had the day to get ready. I had already booked my tours when I booked the trip so I had all my days planed out a lot more organised than Geneva as I didn’t plan very well. I arrived at my hotel and it turned out that Expedia had over booked and I had changed my hotel so I had to get a taxi to the new hotel, which turned out to be only 3 stars and not 4 stars, which put a damper on the holiday but never mind there was no point ruining the trip so I put up with it. So I decided t have a walk around the centre of Zurich as the new hotel turned out to be in a better location and the bus station which I get all my tours from happened to be 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Zurich 2004 Day 2

Tuesday 7 th September 2004

I got up to set off to the bus station to catch the coach to my first mountain. I was soon heading off to mount Rigi which was only and hour about and then caught a cable car to the train station. Where the view of the mountains only half way up was unbelievable and even though I was only half way up I was above the clouds and it was like being in a whole new world. The train was a cog wheel train designed so we can go up very steep hills or mountains to be able to get to the top. Once at the top station I got out and hiked the rest of the way to the peak and the view off the mountain was amazing and I took as many photos as I could. I had a great view of Lucerne and the lake. Before setting of down to the lake I had some food in the restaurant and did a bit of shopping and jumped back on the cog wheel train. Arriving at the dock on the lake at the bottom of the mountain I had a short wait for the boat to take me to Lucerne where I was to meet up with the coach to go back to Zurich . The boat ride was very windy. Arriving in Lucerne I had sometime to shop and have a look round at the beautiful buildings and bridges and then for some tea before setting off to Zurich . That night I decided to have a walk to the lake which was a round an hour walk in the dark however all the buildings where lit up.

Zurich 2004 Day 3

Wednesday 8 th September 2004

Today’s plan was to visit a place called Grindelwald which was 2.5 hour trip from Zurich however everyone was going to Mt Jungfrau one of the largest peaks in Switzerland. So I decide to change the trip and go there instead and a good idea that was. We made a small stop in a little place called Interlaken before headed to the station to catch the train. The views of the mountains all ready were break-taking and this in on the ground just imagine what it will be like up at the top. After we got the train, we had to make a stop to catch a cog wheel train to get to the top. The train stopped 3 times on the way up so we could get out and look out of the side of the mountain which there was some cool views plus every stop we made you could tell the temperature change. As it got colder and colder the higher we got when we arrived at the top, kid our guide showed us around the mountain. I made some nice friends Amy from Canada , a couple from Stockport which is in Manchester and a couple from London .I spent all my time exploring the mountain with Amy we looked around the ice palace which was all made of ice including the floor. We also explored the peak and outside in the snow where we rented plastic board to go on the snow with which was a lot of fun. But the climb back up was hard work. After we finished there we decided to go for food and watched a film about the mountain in a small cinema. Before setting off back to Zurich where me any spend the whole time talking about everything and taking loads of photos and we arranged to meet up on Thursday night.

Zurich 2004 Day 4

Thursday 9 th September 2004

Today’s plan was to go the town of Lucerne however I changed my mind again and decided to mount Pilatus, this mountain was taller than Mt Rigi which I was told had some great views. I went by coach like before which was around 1hour and a half long plus we got to have a look at the lion in Lucerne . On the way I made friends with a couple from Australia and spent the journey talking with them. Once we arrived we had to get a small cable car which only took 4 of us at a time however there was lots of them. Half way up the mountain we had to get off and get on another cable car to go up the steepest part of the mountain however this one was very big at fit about 40 people. This was such an amazing view as we were travelling up the mountain. Once at the top there we 3 different peaks to climb up which I spent all of the time climbing and exploring. There was also a restaurant, hotel and a train station. About 20 minutes before I was suppose to meet up to catch the train. I bumped into the couple from Stockport which was a surprise so we spent that time talking. Before meeting back up with the Austrians as I lost them half way round the mountain. We then had to wait for the train down the mountain. This was the steepest cog wheel train in the world and I got some great shots as we came down the mountain. One we arrived we had to catch the boat to take us to a port near Lucerne where we was going to meet up with the coach. The boat ride was cool and there where other sailing boats on the lake so I was taking photos of them. Once I arrived back in Zurich I went back to the hotel to change ready to meet up with Amy and some of her friends to go for some tea. We spent ages looking for a restaurant with some space but we found a nice Italian restaurant where we talked and had pizza. To night was my last so after the meal I went back to the hotel and grabbed my camera to take some night time shots of Zurich .

Zurich 2004 Day 5

Friday 10 th September 2004

Today I had to get up and pack ready to explore Zurich . I had my breakfast and finished packing before leaving to meet Amy at the train station across the river from the hotel. We had around 5 hours to explore Zurich before I had to set off to get to the airport. We went around all the different churches taking photo’s while walking closer and closer to the lake. Once there we decided to catch a round trip boat around the lake. We sat and talked on the hour and half boat ride before I had to set off back to the hotel to get my luggage we did some shopping and said good bye. I had to get a train to the airport. Once at the airport I checked in and went shopping I brought lots and lots of chocolate and presents before going to the gate to catch the plane. It was late by the time we set off so I listened to music after having tea on the plane and went to sleep and woke up in Manchester .

I hope you have enjoyed reading and looking at my photos of my treks around Europe . I have one more journal to post which is Barcelona . I will be posting this within two weeks.
